    For Teachers & Parents

Looking for a simple, hands-on craft that encourages creativity and fine motor skills in children?

This popsicle stick stand activity is perfect! Kids get to build their own little stands and decorate them with colorful pom-poms, resulting in a playful, personalized creation they can be proud of. It’s ideal for a rainy day, a classroom project, or a cozy afternoon at home.

      Materials Needed

      • Wooden popsicle sticks (craft sticks)
      • Small pom-poms in assorted colors
      • Craft glue or hot glue (use adult supervision for hot glue)
      • Paper (A4)

      Instructions
      Step 1: Build the Base
Start by arranging popsicle sticks on a paper side by side to form a rectangle or square. Use glue to attach them together securely. Then, frame the edges with additional sticks, creating a stable base for your stand.

      Step 2: Create the Stand
For the support, attach two sticks diagonally or at an angle to form an A-frame, or make a simple back support using one stick glued perpendicular to the base. Make sure the stand is stable enough to hold the frame upright.

      Step 3: Decorate with Pom-Poms
Once the stand is assembled, it’s time to get creative! Glue colorful pom-poms around the edges of the popsicle stick frame. Encourage kids to choose their own color patterns, or follow a random, playful arrangement. This step not only brightens the craft but also engages their fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.

      Step 4: Let It Dry
Allow the glue to dry completely before moving or displaying the stand. Depending on the glue used, this may take 30 minutes to an hour.

      Step 5: Display & Enjoy
Once dry, the stand is ready to hold photos, artwork, or notes. Kids will love showing off their handiwork!

      Educational Benefits
This activity is more than just a fun craft, it’s a multi sensory learning experience. Kids practice:
Fine motor skills through handling small pom poms and popsicle sticks
Hand-eye coordination while arranging and gluing decorations.
Creativity & color recognition by choosing patterns and colors
Problem-solving as they figure out how to stabilize their stand
Plus, it’s an excellent opportunity for children to take pride in creating something tangible, building confidence and a sense of accomplishment.
